The University of Bristol Centre for Study Abroad is a cross-institution initiative offering sector-leading international study experiences. Welcoming students from around the world while preparing Bristol students for life-changing adventures abroad, the Centre brings together three specialist teams — Inbound, Global Summer and Outbound — under one distinctive identity.

OUR BRIEF

The newly formed Centre needed a brand identity that reflected its ambition to be sector-leading. The challenge was complex: create a cohesive identity for three distinct teams with different audiences, balance the needs of students from culturally diverse markets — particularly the USA and China — and establish gravitas within the University's brand ecosystem while standing apart from it. All ready for a soft launch in just three months.

OUR ANSWER

We created a flexible brand system that gives the Centre presence and prestige while allowing each team to speak directly to its audiences. A carefully considered visual identity balances the warmth needed to inspire students with the credibility required to attract international partners. The system works seamlessly across digital and print, from social media to large-format graphics in the Centre's physical space.

The brand extends beyond identity into ongoing communications, including annual Study Abroad Guides that showcase the Bristol experience to prospective international students. These publications combine compelling photography, clear information architecture and authentic student voices — demonstrating not just what Bristol offers, but what it feels like to be part of it.

THE IMPACT

The Centre for Study Abroad launched successfully in August 2023 and continues to grow. The brand identity has supported the Centre's ambitious plans to triple its summer operation within five years and develop Bristol-specific programmes that set it apart from competitors. The relationship continues through annual guide production, most recently the 2026/27 edition.
