Oceanium is a marine biotech scale-up with a big vision: to be the global leader in the nascent sustainable seaweed industry. They use cutting-edge biorefinery techniques to develop products from sustainably-sourced seaweed to meet the growing global demand for home compostable, marine-safe bio-packaging, and plant-based food and nutrition ingredients. Their mission is to mitigate climate change, protect our oceans, provide sustainable food and create jobs right across the value chain.

OUR BRIEF

As a young company moving forward at a rate of knots with secured funding from Sky Ocean Ventures, Katapult Ocean (both ocean impact VCs), and six UK government agencies, Oceanium were looking for an ethical, forward thinking creative partner to deliver a future-proofed global branding solution, which would deliver on their needs both now, and as they expand.

Their business model is international and multifaceted, and so are their target audiences so they needed a brand which would be relevant to all of their stakeholders and customers in both b2b and b2c markets.

OUR ANSWER

Oceanium needed to be recognised as authoritative, innovative, forward-thinking and science-focused – a business that means business, whilst still having wide ranging appeal to an audience of consumers, corporates, partners and the public sector.

We developed a colour palette that evoked a 21st century appreciation of the ocean. Fluid lines and elegant forms juxtapose against clean, bold typography and straight talking copy with a dash of maritime humour to inject personality and warmth.

SEA: THE POSSIBILITIES

One of the big challenges was to build a brand structure that could encompass an initial suite of ‘ingredient’ sub-brands for their b2b market with scope for an evolution in to b2c markets with their own product ranges in the near future. We created a family of Oceanium brands that can accomodate a rapidly expanding set of product categories and a badging system for manufacturers to be able to promote a high-end Oceanium ingredient to the end user.

THE IMPACT

Oceanium have secured £2M seed funding led by Green Angel Syndicate and WWF among other investors from Europe, the UK and the US, allowing the pioneering expansion of its biorefinery and processing capacity for sustainably farmed seaweed.

With funding in place and the right brand to launch this exciting new phase in their journey they are all set to lead global and systemic change in a transformative new industry. We're thrilled to continue working with them as they continue their mission.
